The main port of entry to Durban is the international airport, King Shaka International. Three international carriers land in Durban: Qatar Airways from Doha to King Shaka, while Emirates have daily direct flights from Dubai to Durban and Turkish Airlines have flights from Instanbul. African carriers landing in Durban include Eswatini Air, Proflight Zambia and Angolan Airlines. See more details here (https://kingshakaairport.info/flights/international-routes.html). Most other international carriers land at OR Tambo International in Johannesburg, and will require a short hop (50 minute flight) across to Durban. South African Airways, British Airways and FlySafAir are all reliable carriers. There are several hotels and bed and breakfast venue in close proximity to the conference venue campus. However, these are located outside the city centre and away from the city beaches. There are wonderful hotels located on the city beachfront. However, this will mean a commute to the conference centre – private taxis/Uber are the best option here. The conference organisers are engaging with various hotels and bed and breakfast venues for special deals, and these will be advertised on this page as soon as they become available. To date, we have special arrangements with the following hotels. We have secured discounted rates with these venues.   1. Coastlands Musgrave Hotel (https://www.coastlands.co.za/musgrave/). This venue is about 10 minute drive to the campus. This is the main conference hotel, and we will be providing a shuttle from this venue to the Conference venue as well as to the Conference Dinner Venue. All other accommodation will require you to make your own transport arrangements. We advise you to finalise your reservations at this hotel as soon as possible, as only limited number of rooms are available to conference participants.   2. Southern Sun Elangeni & Maharani (https://www.southernsun.com/southern-sun-elangeni-maharani). This is a beachfront hotel, and a longer commute to the conference venue, especially during peak periods. Contact us at icohhistory@ukzn.ac.za for the booking code. This is about a 15 minute beach promenade walk to our Conference Dinner venue.
  3. Mackaya Bella Guest House (http://www.mackayabella.co.za) is a 15 minute walk to the campus
  4. Sica’s Guest House (https://www.facebook.com/sicasguesthouse/). This venue is about 5 minutes from the campus

Public transport (buses) are readily available in Durban, but you are best advised to use the private taxi services. Airport transfers are provided by most of the hotels, and you should enquire about this when making your booking.
